Why horses and wellness?

Horses are large animals and they’re also prey animals, which means they’re wired to notice everything around them to stay safe from predators. Their bodies are highly sensitive–it’s as if they have invisible feelers that can pick up how you’re feeling from upward of 12 arms lengths away.

When you’re with a horse, they can immediately sense whether you feel calm, excited, worried, sad, or something else, and they respond in their own way through their body language.

There is no judgment in this interaction. The horse does not interpret or evaluate, it simply responds, offering clear and honest feedback that helps you become aware of what is happening internally.

Once the horse helps bring awareness to how you’re feeling or behaving, you can decide, in conversation with a facilitator, “do I want to keep doing this?” or “do I want to try something different?”

From there, in partnership with a facilitator, the horse can support you in learning what works for you and what doesn’t, so you can choose what feels most aligned.

“The horse is one of the most intelligent creatures that we have on this planet, and they’re able to sense things that we can’t even begin to comprehend.”

Monty Roberts, The Man Who Listens to Horses

Carla W.

"Going into the retreat, I was a little sceptical about being around such large animals. I was surprised by how quickly a sense of calm set in - simply being around them felt incredibly grounding."
